Here we’ll  discuss ‘The Top 10 Search Engines Today’. What are the 10 most popular search engines in the world? Apart from Google and Bing, other search engines may be less popular but still use millions of search queries per day.

It may be a shock to many people, but Google is not the only search engine available online today!

Several other search engines are looking to take the Google seat but none of them are ready (yet) to be dangerous.

Best Search Engine

Google is the best search engine for 2021.

However, there are other search engines to consider, and some of Google’s best practices are listed below.

Top 10 Most Popular Search Engines in the World

List of the top 10 search engines by 2021

Google

Baidu

Yandex

DuckDuckGo

Google

Google

No further submissions are required. Google ranks first in the search with a staggering 89.43% difference from second place in the Bing rankings.

According to statistics from Statista and Statcounter, Google dominates the market in all countries on any device (desktop, mobile, and tablet).

Why is Google the most popular search engine?

What makes Google one of the most popular and trusted search engines is the quality of its search results. Google uses advanced algorithms to deliver the most accurate results to users. Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin came up with the idea that the websites mentioned are some of the most important and therefore deserving of high ranking in search results. Over the years the Google-based algorithm has been enriched with hundreds of other features (including machine learning) and remains the most reliable way to find what you are looking for online.

Microsoft Bing

Microsoft Bing

Bing was renamed Microsoft Bing in October 2020.

One of Google’s best search engines is Microsoft Bing. Bing’s search engine share is between 2.83% and 12.31%.

Bing is Microsoft’s attempt to challenge Google in its search, but despite their efforts, they have not been able to convince users that their search engine can be as reliable as Google.

Their market share of search engines remains low even though Bing is the default search engine for Windows PCs.

Bing is based on previous Microsoft search engines (MSN Search, Windows Live Search, Live Search), and ranks Alexa # # 30 most frequently visited online.

Yahoo

Yahoo

Yahoo is one of the most popular email providers and the web search engine ranks third in the search with a market share rate of 1%.

From October 2011 to October 2015, Yahoo search was powered by Bing only. In October 2015 Yahoo agreed with Google to provide search-related services and until October 2018, Yahoo results are sponsored by Google and Bing.

As of October 2019, Yahoo! Search is also provided by Bing only.

Yahoo is also the default search engine for Firefox browsers in the United States (since 2014).

Yahoo Web site is very popular and is ranked as the 11 most visited websites on the Internet (According to Alexa).

Baidu

Baidu

Baidu has a global market share of between 0.68% and 11.26%.

Baidu was founded in 2000 and is the most popular search engine in China. Its market share is growing steadily and according to Wikipedia, Baidu uses billions of search queries per month. It is currently ranked 4th, in Alexa Rankings.

Although Baidu is accessible worldwide, it is only available in Chinese.

Yandex.ru

Yandex.ru

Yandex, Russia’s most popular search engine has a market share of between 0.5% and 1.16%.

According to Alexa, Yandex.ru is among the 30 most popular online websites ranking 4th in Russian.

Yandex introduces itself as a technology company that builds intelligent products and services supported by machine learning.

According to Wikipedia, Yandex operates Russia’s largest search engine with a market share of about 65%.

DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo

The market share of the DuckDuckGo search engine is approximately 0.45%.

According to DuckDuckGo traffic statistics, they use an average of 47 million searches per day but their total market share remains below 0.5%.

Contrary to what many people believe, DuckDuckGo does not have its search index (like Google and Bing) but produces its search results using a variety of sources.

In other words, they do not have their data but rely on other sources (such as Yelp, Bing, Yahoo, StackOverflow) to provide answers to users’ queries.

This is a huge limitation compared to Google which has a set of algorithms to determine the best results from all the websites available online.

On the positive side, DuckDuck Go has a clean interface, does not track users, and is not fully loaded with ads.

Ask.com

Ask.com

Formerly known as Ask Jeeves, Ask.com receives about 0.42% of the search quota. ASK is based on a question/answer format where most questions are answered by other users or as a voting method.

It also has standard search functionality but the results are also poor in quality compared to Google or Bing and Yahoo.

Ecosia

Ecosia

Ecosia is a Berlin-based social enterprise founded by Christian Kroll in 2009. The main reason that ecosia was created was to help finance tree planting and restoration projects. It is therefore known as the “tree search engine”.

How does ecosia work? Ecosia is a Bing partner, which means that its search results are powered by Bing. Ecosia makes money to support tree planning by displaying ads in their search results.

Each time an ad is clicked, ecosia receives a smaller share. It is estimated that it takes about 45 searches to support the planting of a single tree.

In terms of search engine market share, Ecosia’s share is almost 0.10%.

AOL.com

AOL.com

The classic AOL is still in the top 10 search engines with a market share of close to 0.05%.

The AOL network includes many popular websites such as addget.com, techchrunch.com, and huffingtonpost.com. On June 23, 2015, AOL was acquired by Verizon Communications.

Internet Archive

Internet Archive

archive.org is an online archive search engine. You can use it to find out what the website looked like since 1996. It is a very useful tool if you want to track domain history and check how we have changed over the years.
